Woman Blue

Let me tell you about Regina

Such a pretty, good girl

Who never got into trouble

Or missed a school assignment

What an even tempered lass

She became an adult

Followed the syllabus to a T

Dedicating herself to babies

Keeping the home in order

Trying to be the perfect mother

Inside she was tormented

With a repressed rage

Feeling herself sinking

Detached from the performer

Who had taken over

She sought refuge in fantasies

A world of alternate paths taken

Who was this woman really

Did she even know

Or just trying to ace the test?

She wished for a confidante

My baby has colic

I haven’t slept in weeks

Or showered, don’t inhale

Am I still pretty?

Her daughter was ten

A tumbleweed of a child

But she was the eldest

Regina needed her now

Grow up, dear, be a big girl
